Almaty. Republic Square.

2009-11-17| Askar Isabekov

Became slightly warm, snow melted, on open lands there were much birds. Most of them were common winter birds: Carrion and Hooded Crows, Rooks, Mynahs, Blackbirds, House Sparrows, Great Tits. Still there are a bit of Chaffinches, today I saw only two Chaffinches were feeding in flock together with House Sparrows. Twice I observed Goldcrests and once the Laughing Dove. Today the most interesting is the Lesser Whitethroat. The latest autumn Lesser Whitethroats recorded in the middle of October. Now is already the middle of November. Probably this Lesser Whitethroat will winter in Almaty. Whitethroat was quite cautious, stayed separately from other birds; when aggressive Mynahs or sociable Sparrows came flying Whitethroat hid. It foraged mostly on the thuja.

1. Mynah (Acridotheres tristis)

2. Blackbird (Turdus merula intermedius)

3. Lesser Whitethroat (Sylvia curruca)
