October Big Day 2023. Results

2023-10-19| Anna Yasko

On October 14, the October Big Day 2023 took place, when birdwatchers from 191 countries around the world united with one goal - observing and counting birds. The event was attended by 36,332 people, 83,735 checklists were submitted, and 7,525 species were recorded, an increase of 72 species from last year. See more details here.

Kazakhstan took 74th place in the list of countries by the number of species (144 species), submitting 55 complete checklists from 6 regions (Almaty and Almaty region go under different numbers). The best local observation is Sorbulak, which yielded a group of 65 species for one large one (see Victoria Zvyagintseva's report here). The greatest result by region was brought by the Mangistau region - 69 species of birds per day in different locations. See more information here.

Many thanks to all participants! I hope this day brings you a lot of positivity! The next Global Big Day will take place on May 11, 2024.
